Terms of reference
Inquiry into Raising Children in the ACT
The Committee has resolved to inquire into and report on the following matters:
- Factors affecting raising children in the ACT, including:
- cost of living pressures;
- the availability of affordable housing suited to the family’s needs;
- the ongoing costs of raising children, such as education and participation in extracurricular activities;
- social factors, including availability of family and community support networks;
- climate and environmental concerns;
- availability of health services including access to paediatric specialists and screening;
- support and advice for prospective parents with a disability and/or significant health issues;
- fertility issues and the accessibility of affordable fertility treatments;
- local and international adoption; and
- any other related issue.
- Policy considerations and actions to address the above factors.
The Committee is mindful of, and will take into consideration, the application of the Human Rights Act 2004 when examining these matters.
