Resolution of establishment

A committee’s terms of reference come from its resolution of establishment, which is passed by the Assembly.  This resolution sets out a committee’s responsibilities, any additional powers a committee may have and any specific directions the Assembly may decide to give a committee.  The Assembly can amend the resolution of establishment to alter or expand the responsibilities, membership and work of a committee.

The Assembly resolved to establish a standing committee on Justice and Community Safety on 2 December 2020, amended on 11 February 2021, 30 March 2021, 22 April 2021, 16 September 2021, 9 November 2021, 10 February 2022, 5 April 2022 and 4 August 2022.

The committee is responsible for examining the following areas:

  • Gaming
  • Minister of State (Justice and Community Safety reporting areas)
