The Assembly resolved to establish a standing committee on Education and Community Inclusion on 2 December 2020. Please click here to view the current resolution and previous amendments.
The committee is responsible for examining the following areas:
All bills presented to the Assembly are referred to the relevant standing committee for consideration under Standing Order 174.
The committee must advise the Speaker of its decision to inquire into a bill within three weeks of its presentation to the Assembly, or one week after the relevant scrutiny report is tabled (whichever is later).
Where the committee inquiries into a bill, it must complete its report within three months of the bill’s presentation in the Assembly, except bills presented in the last sitting period of each year where the committee must report within four months of the bill’s presentation.

Referred Draft Major Amendments to the Territory Plan (from 27 November 2023)
Pursuant to section 70(2) of the Planning Act 2023, the Minister must refer major draft amendments to the Territory Plan to the relevant Assembly committee within 5 working days of the publication of the public availability notice. The referral must be accompanied by a request that the committee decide whether it will prepare a report on the draft amendment.
Under section 71(1) of the Planning Act 2023, the committee must tell the Minister whether it will prepare a report on the draft amendment within 15 working days of the referral. If the committee has not told the Minister with 15 working days whether it will prepare a report, it is taken to have decided not to prepare a report.
